St Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church in West Norwood opened its doors in 1905 and was lengthened at the east end in 1937. After damage by enemy action in 1940 the west end was rebuilt with a two-storey brick front containing a central entrance with side lobbies. Set in a round arch over the entrance is a stone statue of St Matthew.
The church’s Priest contacted Clarity with the wish that their existing sound system be upgraded to produce better sound quality and ensuring excellent audio coverage for all their congregation. To achieve this, we installed six high-quality Yamaha loudspeakers in white to blend in with the white walls of the main church. For the lobby areas we installed two black Bose speakers in the larger area and one in the smaller. In all areas we made sure the cabling was very carefully and discreetly installed.
For all the audio equipment we wall-mounted a small rack cabinet in a storage cupboard outside the main church. This contains a stereo mixer amplifier, a small power amplifier, two channels of radio microphone systems (one lapel and one handheld), a CD/media audio player with Bluetooth connectivity and a connection panel. The fully labelled connection panel allows a computer, Smartphone or MP3 player to be connected to the sound system as well as the option of connecting a cabled microphone. The cabinet also includes a useful drawer in which to keep the microphones and it can also be locked for security.
Clarity also supplied a wired gooseneck microphone permanently mounted in the church’s existing lectern.
On completion of the installation we gave training to church team members on how to get the best from their new system.
