Springwell School - Colours of the Rainbow

Teaching staff returned to Springwell School in Southampton during September to discover that the school hall had been transformed by Clarity in Sound, Light and Vision Limited with the use of Chroma LED lighting to provide an exciting and inspiring environment.

Springwell is a designated day special school for pupils with complex learning difficulties aged from 4 - 11 years. Many pupils have associated disabilities including speech and language disorders, autism and challenging behaviour. Staff pride themselves on the high quality education they provide and the high expectations they have for each individual pupil. The school is a brand new building with amazing classrooms and facilities. Each of the eight classes have a discrete outdoor teaching area leading onto a bright open courtyard. There is also a range of specialist teaching areas including an art room, food technology room and ICT suite as well as a modern hydrotherapy pool, soft play room and large multi-sensory interactive room.

During the summer break the engineering team from Clarity installed 12 LED fixtures along with an easy to operate control system into the school hall. The classes at Springwell School are named after the colours of the rainbow and the simple control system allows teachers to match the colour of the hall to the colour of the class being taught in the hall with a single button press and whilst lessons are not taking place the LED lighting adds to the contemporary lighting already installed.

David Ashton from Clarity recently spent a morning at Springwell School training the staff how to use their new LED lighting and also providing training on how to use the school sound system also modified by Clarity during the summer break. 'All of the staff were very excited to learn how to use the new system and the training session means that there are a number of key-users within the school that know how to operate the systems installed'.

'We have programmed a number of sequences into the lighting controller which means the LED lighting can be used alongside the contemporary lighting to provide a little extra ambience or the hall can become vibrantly lit in the colour of the class currently using the hall, which the children enjoy very much. It's very satisfying to see the children and staff enjoying their newly lit environment'.

The LED lighting installation at Springwell School is one of a number of LED lighting installations Clarity has installed into education establishments in recent months.
