Blackheath School Auditorium

Clarity in Sound Light & Vision Ltd made a successful bid to design and install the sound and lighting systems at Blackheath High School’s newly-built, 345-seat auditorium — principally to be used for performing arts, ballet and school assembly.

Clarity installed a dimmable theatrical lighting system and flexible sound system with remote sound trolley for day-to-day use. Clarity also installed an induction loop system for the hearing impaired, a high power LCD projector with electric screen and the stage curtains.

To say I’m pleased with the sound quality is an understatement — to provide such a high quality sound in such an unusual shaped theatre is an outstanding achievement” says Tony Sutherland, business manager of Blackheath High School in South East London .

Clarity has made its mark in schools and the education market as a specialist one-stop supplier of audio, lighting and visual systems for school assembly halls, drama studios and music rooms.

Stuart Graham, Clarity’s founder and MD, explains, “We’ve gained invaluable experience talking to teachers and interpreting their wants into system designs that everyone can operate – from teacher to child – and everything is always designed with simplicity in mind.”

Through the installation period at Blackheath High School, according to the school’s business manager “there was an enormous amount of communication and co-operation on site, not only between the contractors but also the staff.”

Stuart Graham continued to say “A school will always get out of a project what it puts in; some school auditoriums end up being bland but the auditorium at Blackheath High School has immense character and is in continual use.”

Clarity's continuing ability to plug the knowledge gap – to guide teachers through what could be technical mire, towards a suitable, in-budget solution – sets them apart in the field as  each system is designed around a school’s individual requirements. The systems see varied everyday use and it’s important that systems accommodate the demanding schedule of a school and adapt to the ever-evolving needs of its curriculum.

Graham takes exemplary pride in his work, “To supply the systems we do, you really have to care. We always include full training, which means you won’t need any professional experience to operate our designs. We’ve never had a complaint to say the system hasn’t been used.”
