Wireless floating switches for hydrotherapy

June saw the creation of a new hydrotherapy pool for Oak View School in Loughton, Essex.

The special educational needs primary school required an interactive environment to help students with their therapy sessions, which Clarity designed in close co-operation with the school.

An attractive display of LED spheres, suspended above the hydrotherapy pool create a calming ambiance. Clarity have designed wireless floating switches to control the LED lighting, to provide a truly interactive experience for students. The switches, which are controlled by the students motion in the water, change colours and sequences of the lighting. The switches are also connected to a sound sampler which produces sound effects when certain switches are triggered. The LED lighting and wireless floating switches help with motor functions and learning cause & effect.

A moving light, controlled by a joystick, is used as a visual tracking tool in therapy sessions. The moving light projects coloured images around the hydrotherapy pool and helps with visual tracking - designed to be used as a therapy tool.

The hydrotherapy pool is also supported by a high quality sound system. At the heart of the sound system is a Cloud MPA-120 mixer amplifier, which is controlled remotely by a small volume/source control – mounted close to the hydrotherapy pool. The simple controls of the Cloud equipment allow the teachers and therapists to focus on their hydrotherapy sessions, and not on technology.

The decision to use Cloud amplification and control was made due to the brands reliability in difficult environments. The humidity of the hydrotherapy pool could have an adverse effect on many brands but through our previous experience in using Cloud in leisure centres and bars, we know that the equipment will be reliable for years to come.
