Brady Arts Centre

Whitechapel, London

The Brady Arts Centre is a well-equipped venue in the east end of London which houses a studio theatre space, café area with gallery, large function rooms, a main hall which opens out into a side hall and adjacent garden, meeting rooms for hire and facilities such as an art room.

The Centre called in Clarity to advise on updating the lighting in the studio theatre and main hall area as well as providing a new projection system for the studio.

Firstly, Clarity modified the existing lighting bars in the theatre to accept LED lighting and other digital effects.  A quantity of LED colour changing lanterns were installed and a Zero 88 FLX lighting desk was provided capable of controlling the Centre’s existing lanterns as well as the new LED lanterns.  The desk has many features including multi-touch screen, colour picking mixing and image capture, filter libraries and mood boards.

A high-power 8,000 Lumen widescreen laser projector was suspended from the lighting grid.  This provides a high quality, clear image in the studio, even in bright conditions.  A 4m wide electric, remote-controlled screen was installed and a combined HDMI/VGA facility panel was fitted at the front of the studio for connection from a computer.  To enhance the Centre’s live events and exhibitions a high-quality, multi-format digital video mixer was also installed.

In the main hall, an internally wired lighting bar was installed from the ceiling as well as another horizontally mounted on the rear wall.  A quantity of LED colour changing lanterns were supplied for the bars and a wall mounted easy to use six button control panel was installed so anyone without technical knowledge can use the system with ease.  The panel can also be operated remotely via an iPad.
